Salary Benchmarks
When applying for a new job you want to be sure that the package on
offer is indicative of the work you will be putting in. It is also

similar to those that you have applied to or are looking for in order to
ensure that your expectations are achievable, or to ensure the salary
you are offered is in line with the average rate at present.
The structure of NHS/ public sector salaries are very different to private sector salaries.
If you are looking for work in the private sector your salary structure throughout your time with the employer is likely to differ from organisation to organisation, with various different components and benefits.
Most NHS salaries are structured around the Agenda For Change (AfC) framework, which is a banded system that replaced the graded Whitley Council pay scale. Almost all NHS employees outside of foundation trusts, and most within, have their positions banded according to AfC.
Agenda for Change orders each position within the NHS into a specific band betwen 1 and 9. Examples of these include:
* Band 1 - Administration, cleaning, dosmetic, portering
* Salary (approx.) - £13,500 - £14,500
* Band 2 - As Band 1 and including Clinical Support Workers, Patient Transport and Pharmacy Assistants
* Salary (approx.)- £13,500 - £16,750
* Band 3 - Secretaries, Security, Emergency Care Support Workers and Clinical Assistants (Microbiology, OT, Physio and SaLT)
* Salary (approx.) - £15,500 - £18,500
* Band 4 - Ambulance Practitioners, Clinical Assistants (Mortuary, OT, Physio, Psychology, Radiography, SaLT) Medical Secretary, Nursing Auxiliaries/ Nursery Nurses, ODP (Entry Level), Office Management
* Salary (approx.) - £18,000 - £21,750
* Band 5 - Nurses and Midwives, Allied Health Professionals, Senior Pharmacy Technicians, Dental Technicians (Entry Level)
* Salary (approx.)- £21,000 - £27,500
* Band 6 - Senior/ Specialist Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals, Pharmacists, Trainee Clinical Psychologists, Health Visitors
